What is a pear dump cake? It's a rustic, fruit-filled dessert—more akin to a cobbler or crisp than a traditional cake. The name says it all: ingredients are simply "dumped" into the pan—fruit first, followed by a dry cake mix. Melted butter is drizzled over the top, adding moisture and richness.

Our version, from our A Piece of Cake cookbook, features juicy, ripe pears and the warm spice of crystallized ginger for a comforting, sweet combination. A simple cake mix, made with pantry staples, is sprinkled over the pears, forming the base of the dessert. Then comes the decadent part: melted butter, a rich caramel topping, and crunchy pecans elevate the flavors and textures.

This easy pear dump cake requires only 15 minutes of prep time and is best served warm, when the flavors are at their peak. A scoop of vanilla ice cream is the perfect complement, melting into the warm cake and enhancing the buttery caramel and spiced pear flavors. Make any dinner a little more special with this delightful dessert.
