Ingredients

1 1/4
cups watermelon juice
1/4
cup rum or vodka
1/4
cup agave nectar or honey
1
tablespoon fresh lemon juice
4-6 shredded fresh basil leaves
1/4
teaspoon salt
Ice
Watermelon wedges, if desired
Fresh basil sprigs, if desired

    In cocktail shaker add watermelon juice, rum, agave nectar, lemon juice, basil, salt and ice. Shake until mixed and chilled. Pour through strainer into 2 glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with watermelon wedge and sprig of basil.

Expert Tips

To make fresh watermelon juice, cut seeded watermelon from rind into chunks. In food processor, place watermelon. Cover; process, using quick on-and-off motions, until watermelon is pureed. Press through strainer, discarding any pulp.

If desired, you can substitute simple syrup for the agave nectar or honey.
