Mmm! Jazzed-up baked apples taste like apple pie without the fuss of making a crust.
Updated January 15, 2007

Ingredients

  • 4 large cooking apples
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup cranberry-apple drink
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Chopped nuts, if desired

Steps

  • 1
Core apples. Fill centers of apples with brown sugar and cranberries. Place apples in 5- to 6-quart slow cooker.
  • 2
In small bowl, mix cranberry-apple drink and butter; pour over apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • 3
Cover; cook on Low heat setting 4 to 6 hours.
  • 4
To serve, spoon apples into dessert dishes. Spoon sauce over apples. Sprinkle with nuts.

  • Some cooking apples hold their shape better after cooking. Try Jonagold, Rome Beauty, Golden Delicious, Beacon, San Rose or Wealthy apples.
  • Like apple pie with Cheddar cheese? Sprinkle these hot baked apples with shredded Cheddar cheese instead of the nuts.
