Heat oven to 325°F (350°F for glass pan). Grease bottom of 8-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray. Make brownie batter as directed on box for cakelike brownies. Spread in pan. In small bowl, combine nuts and chocolate chips; sprinkle half of mixture over batter in pan. Set remaining nut mixture aside.
Bake 37 to 42 minutes (34 to 39 minutes for nonstick pan) or until toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Meanwhile, place caramels and milk in small microwavable bowl, microwave uncovered on High 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring every 30 seconds until caramels are melted.
Use your favorite nut for these decadent brownies. For a tropical twist, try macadamia nuts or a cashew-macadamia mix.
For a truly decadent dessert, serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
For super-easy cleanup, line your baking pan with foil that is longer than the pan; spray the bottom and sides of the foil. When brownies are cool, lift them out of the pan by the foil "handles," peel back foil and cut brownies.
