Bread Machine Olive-Parmesan Bread

An easy bread gets a flavor boost from Parmesan cheese and olives. Your bread basket will never be the same!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons instant nonfat dry milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons bread machine dry yeast or active dry yeast
  • 2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 (2 1/4-oz.) can sliced ripe olives, drained

Steps

    Use bread machine that produces 1 1/2-lb or larger loaf. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Measure remaining ingredients carefully. Follow manufacturer's directions for placing ingredients in bread machine pan.

    Select Basic/White cycle. Do not use delay cycle. Follow manufacturer's directions for starting machine.

    Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats from olives may help lower blood cholesterol. But fats are high in calories so keep portions small.

    One-half cup of sliced, pitted olives can be used in place of the 2 1/4 ounce can of sliced ripe olives. Use your favorite olives, such as kalamata, Sicilian or Moroccan.

    To ensure that there are large pieces of olive in the bread, add the olives to the machine at the fruits/nuts signal.
