Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup white sparkling decorating sugar
Make With
Gold Medal Flour

Steps

  • 1
Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, beat brown sugar, butter and maple extract with electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy; scraping sides of bowl. Beat in eggs, one at a time, just until smooth. On low speed, beat in flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon and the salt until well mixed.
  • 2
In small bowl, mix remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon, the decorating sugar and nutmeg. Shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. For each cookie, place a ball into the sugar mixture spooning over the balls and rolling to coat. On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls about 2 inches apart.
  • 3
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until cookies are light brown around the edges. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
We like the light-catching texture of the sparkling decorating sugar in this recipe. Sparkling decorating sugar can be purchased in the baking aisle of most grocery stores, or in crafts stores carrying baking supplies. To use granulated sugar instead, adjust your amount to 1/3 cup.
  • tip 2
Spices tend to settle near the bottom of the rolling sugar mixture. By spooning the mixture over the cookie balls, you guarantee an even coating of spices and sugar.
  • tip 3
Store these cookies in tightly-covered container at room temperature.
