Peanut and tree nut free box mixes

My grandkids like to bake with mixes.  Are Betty Crocker baking mixes free of contact with peanut and tree nuts unless designated as having them in the mix?

I checked with our Consumer Foods department and here is the official answer to your important question...

Thank you for contacting General Mills concerning ingredients in our products. As manufacturers and consumers, we understand your concern about potential allergens in the foods you eat. Our primary goal is to provide accurate information; and we believe this is best accomplished by referring to the specific ingredients listed on each product package. This is the most current information for your needs.

If one of our products contains any of the top 8 allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy products, eggs, soy, wheat, crustaceans, and fish) or if it contains sesame, sunflower or mollusks, that ingredient is always listed in the ingredient panel, and also in bold letters just below the list of ingredients. If a product is exposed to any of these allergens in the manufacturing facility the allergen will be listed in bold in the Contains Statement just below the list of ingredients. This list is your ingredient assurance for that package. It is not intended for other packaging of the same product. Ingredients may vary from one package to another due to product reformulation. If you have allergy concerns, please read each package ingredient panel.

We hope this information helps you.

Does the same apply to your Sprinkles as well?

galligc:

Does the same apply to your Sprinkles as well?

I contacted Customer Service about this, and this was ther response:

Our response for Betty Crocker Dessert mixes is as follows:
On June 1, 2009, General Mills began using  ‘MAY CONTAIN’  allergen labeling for the  Top 8 allergens plus sesame, sunflower, and mollusk ingredients that are not in the product’s recipe, but may be present in the product due to manufacturing conditions.

The current ‘CONTAINS’ statement for labeling the ‘Top 8 Allergens plus sesame, sunflower, and mollusks’ will continue to be used for products that contain the allergen in the product’s recipe.

·        Some products have just the CONTAINS statement.

·        Some product have just the MAY CONTAIN statement

·        Some products have both the CONTAINS and MAY CONTAIN statements.

·        Some products have neither statement (when none of the top 8 allergens or sesame, sunflower, and mollusks’ are added to the product or are exposed to the product.)

As with all product and package changes, both products may be on store shelves at the same time, so consumers are encouraged to read labels/packaging carefully.  The individual ingredient label on the package represents accurate information for the product inside that package.

Response for Betty Crocker Sprinkles:
This product is manufactured and distributed by a company licensed to use the Betty Crocker name, please refer the consumer to the company directly for the most current and up-to-date allergen information.

Hi I am also allergic to all Tree Nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, brazil nuts, etc).  I saw the above conversation and I would like to know if this is still true.  I am wanting to purchase your brownie mix.  The mix does not contain a statement of whether the product contains or comes into contact with any of the top allergens.  Since this discussion is several years old I would like an update as to your companies allergy procedure.

Thanks
