Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon chili powder, as desired
  • 1/2 cup unpopped popcorn (not microwave popcorn)

Steps

  • 1
In 4-quart saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Stir in sugar and chili powder. Add popcorn, and shake to coat popcorn evenly.
  • 2
Cover pan, and start shaking back and forth. Keep shaking to prevent popcorn and sugar from burning. After a few minutes, you will hear the popcorn start to pop. Keep shaking until the popping has slowed to once every 2 to 3 seconds. Remove from heat, and immediately pour into large bowl. Cool, stirring occasionally to break up clumps. Serve warm.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
You’ll want to make sure your pan is large enough so that the popcorn can move around, preventing burning.
  • tip 2
For extra spice, add a dash of cayenne pepper.
