Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh bratwurst
  • 1 large bell pepper, cut into 1-inch strips
  • 1 package Betty Crocker™ Suddenly Salad® classic pasta salad mix
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 can (15 1/2 ounces) pineapple chunks in juice, drained and 1/4 cup juice reserved

Steps

  • 1
Place bratwurst in single layer in square microwavable dish, 8x8x2 inches. Cover with plastic wrap, folding back one corner to vent. Microwave on High 5 minutes. Turn over and rearrange bratwurst; re-cover and microwave on Medium-High (70%) 3 to 4 minutes or until bratwurst are no longer pink in center.
  • 2
Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat. Grill bratwurst uncovered 4 to 5 inches from medium heat 12 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until brown on all sides. Grill bell pepper 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, until skin is blistered. Refrigerate bratwurst and bell pepper.
  • 3
Empty Pasta mix into 3-suart saucepan 2/3 full of boiling water. Gently boil uncovered 12 minutes, stirring occasionally. While pasta is cooking, continue with step 4.
  • 4
Stir Seasoning mix, brown sugar, soy sauce and reserved pineapple juice in large bowl; set aside.
  • 5
Drain pasta; rinse with cold water. Shake to drain well.
  • 6
Cut bratwurst into 1/2-inch slices. Cut bell pepper strips into 1-inch pieces. Stir pasta, bratwurst, bell pepper and pineapple into seasoning mixture. Just before serving, toss with Topping. Cover and refrigerate leftovers.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
Purchasing cooked bratwurst will trim time. Omit step 1 and the first 6 minutes of grilling in step 2.
  • tip 2
Add leftover pineapple juice to orange juice for a taste of the Tropics!
  • tip 3
Is the store fresh out of fresh brats? Purchase frozen brats, and thaw in the refrigerator the night before.
