Created after the end of World War I and named for the motorcycle attachment, the traditional version of this cocktail always includes a sugared rim. MORE + LESS -

Ingredients

Sugar
Ice cubes or crushed ice

tablespoons cognac or brandy (1 oz)

tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur (1 oz)
1 1/2
tablespoons lemon juice (3/4 oz)

    Rub rim of chilled martini glass with water; dip rim of glass in sugar.

    In martini shaker with ice, shake cognac, liqueur and lemon juice until blended. Pour into glass, straining out ice.

Expert Tips

  • For best results, use freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Triple Sec is an orange-flavored liqueur often used in this drink.
