Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 can (21 ounces) apple pie filling
  • 2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 egg

Steps

    Heat oven to 350°. Mix melted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and the pie filling. Spoon into ungreased square pan, 9x9x2 inches. Place in oven while making batter.

    Beat remaining ingredients in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour over warm apple filling.

    Bake 34 to 38 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of gingerbread comes out clean and top is cracked. Spoon into bowls; serve warm.

    Use dark brown sugar and full-flavor molasses for a gingerbread with a richer flavor and color. Top warm gingerbread with cinnamon ice cream or whipped topping. Peach or apricot pie filling makes a tasty substitution for the apple pie filling.
