Ingredients

  • 3 pounds lean ground beef
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
  • 12 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Steps

  • 1
Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat. Mix all ingredients except buns. Shape into 12 patties, each about 3/4 inch thick.
  • 2
Cover and grill patties 3 to 4 inches from medium heat 10 to 11 minutes, turning once, until no longer pink in center and juice is clear. Serve on buns.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
Top these spicy burgers with sour cream, guacamole or some of each!
  • tip 2
When shaping ground beef patties, handle the meat as little as possible; too much handling toughens the meat when it cooks.
