Dried Apricot-Cherry Compote

Ingredients

packages (6 ounces each) dried apricots

cans (5 1/2 ounces each) apricot nectar

cup sweetened dried cherries
1/3
cup sugar

teaspoons grated orange peel

    Mix all ingredients in 2- to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker.

    Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.

    Serve warm or chilled. To chill, cool about 2 hours, then spoon compote into container; cover and refrigerate until chilled.

Expert Tips

  • For a "golden" compote, use golden raisins instead of the dried cherries.
  • This compote stands on its own for dessert, but it also makes a delicious topping for orange sherbet or vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
  • For an added hint of orange, stir a couple of tablespoons of orange-flavored liqueur into the compote before serving.
