Ingredients

  • 3 cups Wheaties™ cereal
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons dry ranch dressing mix (from 1-oz package)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1 large onion, sliced, separated into rings
Make With
Gold Medal Flour

Steps

  • 1
Place cereal in resealable food-storage plastic bag; seal bag and finely crush with rolling pin or meat mallet (or finely crush in food processor). In large bowl, mix crushed cereal, flour and dressing mix. In small bowl, beat egg and milk.
  • 2
In deep fryer or heavy saucepan, heat 2 to 3 inches oil to 375°F. Dip each onion ring in cereal mixture, then in egg mixture and again in cereal mixture. Fry onion rings in batches 2 to 3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
If you like a thicker breading on your onion rings, dip the onions three times in the batter instead of twice.
  • tip 2
For a different flavor, replace the ranch dressing mix with Cajun, Greek or Italian seasoning, or Montreal steak or chicken grill seasoning.
