For a birthday party of prehistoric proportions, think dinosaurs. Betty’s Jurassic-era bash comes complete with an easy-to-make T-Rex birthday cake, Brontosaurus cookie bones and simple dollar-store party favors. Include an excavation site for unearthing fossils and you’ve got a dino-mite party perfect for budding archaeologists.

Dinosaur Party Decor

With a few items rounded up from your local craft and dollar stores, you’ll have everything you need to set the scene.

We draped inexpensive burlap over the table and created a runner out of a preserved moss matt (see the party food picture above).

At the craft store we stocked up on ferns, large philodendron leaves that served as chargers and a magnolia garland that hung over the table with a felt Happy Birthday sign from Target. Lastly, we ordered bamboo plates and silverware from sustyparty.com. The best part: they’re 100% compostable, which means no dishes to wash!

Dinosaur Party Favors

One of our favorite party tricks is to shop for ideas at the dollar store. You never know what you’ll find! We stumbled upon the green takeout boxes and colorful dinosaurs while perusing the aisles and were inspired to use them as party favors.

Another tip is to create a custom snack mix to match the colors of the party. For ours we combined pretzel sticks, Bugles, Rice Chex cereal, cashews and green chocolate candies.

To pull it all together, fill the takeout boxes and close, place a fake fern frond on top (you can use double stick tape, but we found we didn’t need it), position the dinosaurs in the center of the box and secure with decorative ribbon. We hand-stamped “thanks” on our tags, but you might also like the idea of writing the name of each guest and using them as place settings as well as favors.
