Five Tips for Scrumptious Grilled Kabobs

  1.  Cut kabob ingredients into 1-inch to 1 ¼-inch pieces, if cutting’s needed at all.  While it looks good to alternate your kabob choices on the skewer, it can be easier to have separate skewers for each food. Everything’s cooked just right.
  2. Leaving about a 1/4-inch space between pieces of food on the skewers allows for even cooking.
  3. When marinating is needed, use a self-sealing plastic bag. Place sealed bag in a shallow dish (a pie plate is perfect), and set in refrigerator. Massage or turn the bag every so often to make sure all of the food is immersed. And when you’re done, just throw the bag and marinade away!
  4. Invest in several kinds of skewers or other grilling gear to inspire kabob cooking. Metal skewers that are a square shape (instead of round) help keep food from turning or spinning when skewers are turned.
  5. If using bamboo skewers, soak in water at least 30 minutes before using to prevent burning.
