Hi,

Here is a recipe that uses shortening from the Betty Crocker Cookie Book.  Enjoy!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup sugar

2/3 cup shortening (part butter or margarinem if desired)

1 teaspoons vanilla

1 egg

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 (6-oz.) pkg. (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts or shelled sunflower seeds, if desired

1.   Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, combine brown sugar, sugar, shortening, vanilla and egg; beat until light and fluffy.

2.   Add flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

3.   Bake at 375°F. for 8 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets.
