Grilling season is upon us and what goes better with a juicy burger, flame-grilled steak or hot dog? Caramelized onions of course! But who wants to stand over a hot stove on a hot day roasting onions? Certainly not me! While you’re out and about enjoying these fleeting summer days, let your crock cook up some of these deliciously sweet and savory onions. They’re so simple to make, and in fact, require only two ingredients—onions and butter.

Start by peeling onions and cutting them into large slices. Place in your slow cooker.

Top the onion slices with pats of butter. Cover and cook on high for 9-10 hours until onions are dark brown and caramelized. No stirring necessary!

While caramelized onions taste great with burgers and steaks, they’re also scrumptious atop pizza, stirred into a homemade onion dip or mixed into pasta. How will you put your slow-cooked onions to use?
