How To Make Apple Chips

By Haley Nelson
Created January 10, 2017
Put an abundance of apples to use with this easy, four-step kitchen project. The resulting chips are crispy, sweet and oh-so good!

While it’s much easier to buy apple chips at the grocery store, it’s far more fun to make them at home. Especially in the fall, when there is a chill in the air, my fridge is full of apples and I’m looking for an excuse to turn on my oven. If I had known how easy (and affordable) it was to make homemade apple chips at home, I wouldn’t have waited so long to make them myself! Here’s how to do it.

What You’ll Need:

  • Apples
  • Sharp knife or mandolin slicer
  • Rimmed baking sheet(s)
  • Parchment paper
  • Cinnamon-sugar mix (2 parts sugar to 1 part cinnamon)

How to:

  1. Preheat oven to 225°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Using a mandolin (or sharp knife), carefully cut apples into thin slices. The thinner the slices, the faster they will bake.
  3. Remove seeds from the center slices. Lay apple slices on prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon and sugar.
  4. Bake for two hours, turning once half way through, until apples are dried and crispy. This may take more or less time, depending on your oven. Allow to cool before eating.

Ways to use:
Apple chips are delicious on their own, but if you want to get the most out of your homemade treats, try any of the following:

I have a hunch that these snacks will become a new favorite in your household. They certainly have in mine!
