Gifts with a Long and Happy Future

Created January 10, 2017
What was the key to a long and happy marriage back in the 1950s? If you were the beaming couple in this vintage ad, it was most certainly a Betty Crocker appliance.
Gifts with a Long and Happy Future

In 1951, you didn’t have to look far to find the perfect wedding gift—after all, a shiny new Betty Crocker appliance promised “a long and happy future,” as shown in this ad. This particular toaster vowed to pop toast extra-high, and we all know that’s the stuff that lasting unions are made of. Not only that, but the General Mills Tru-Heat Iron pictured on the side guaranteed you could “iron like a dream in any direction.”

Nowadays, we may not equate the perfect appliance with marital bliss, but it sure doesn’t hurt to have a well-stocked kitchen with all the essentials to prepare your favorite meals. Since the Betty Crocker Store was formed, households everywhere have been able to conveniently order from a selection of more than 5,000 items—including shiny new toasters—that can all be shipped right to your front door.

Were you the proud recipient of a Betty Crocker appliance back in the day? If so, we’d love to hear about it!
