Searching for the perfect holiday gift for the casual friends and acquaintances on your list? Look no further than your kitchen.

Homemade food gifts are fun to give, and even more fun to make! Here are three gift-worthy ideas that work for neighbors, teachers, daycare providers, coworkers and others loved ones on your list.

Hot Cocoa Spoons

hot cocoa spoons

Use these hot cocoa spoons to add extra flavor to your hot chocolate, or eat the chocolate right off of the spoon. Either way is fine!

To make: Microwave 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in 20 second intervals until chocolate is melted. Mix until smooth. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Using a disposable spoon, take one spoonful of chocolate and lay on the parchment paper. Add desired toppings, such as sprinkles, mini marshmallows, chopped nuts, candy cane crumbs, etc. Place spoons in the fridge to harden, and keep refrigerated until ready to use.

Tip: Can’t find mini marshmallows? Buy a box of hot cocoa with marshmallows and use a strainer to separate the powder from the marshmallows. Voila!

Flavored sugars are easy to make and fun to use. Use vanilla sugar, for example, to make extra flavorful chocolate chip cookies. Use chai spice sugar to make the most delicious cinnamon toast ever. Sprinkle some peppermint sugar on top of hot chocolate. The possibilities are endless!

To make:

Chai spice sugar: Mix 1 cup of sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg, ½ teaspoon ground cardamom and a pinch of ground cloves.

Peppermint sugar: Mix 1 cup of sugar with 2 tablespoons of ground peppermint hard candies. Add a drop or two of red or pink food coloring, if desired.

Vanilla sugar: Scrape out the inside of one vanilla bean pod. Mix the seeds with 1 cup of sugar.
