Growing up, I was only allowed “fun” cereal on special occasions. Oh, we happily ate our fair share of Cheerios®, Kix® and Chex®. But when it came to the really good stuff, my brother and I had to beg and plead, or ask Santa to bring us boxes of Trix® or Cocoa Puffs® for Christmas (true story). It’s no wonder that today one of my favorite indulgences is a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.
The idea of mashing this sweet cereal into a milk shake conjures up images of the Brandy Alexanders my parents still make every year on their anniversary. This ice cream drink laced with golden liquor signifies that they are still in love after all these years (35 and counting!). The taste of this grown-up beverage eluded me until I came of age, but as a child, I imagined it to be rich, sweet and far more exotic than my bowl of vanilla ice cream.
To conjure up the flavor of Brandy Alexanders in a new way, I started with the recipe for Cinnamon Toast Crunch® Milk Shake MashUp and made the following adjustments:
- Reduce milk to 1/3 cup
- Add 1/4 cup brandy
- Serve in a martini glass or dessert goblet
- Garnish with cinnamon
If you feel too lazy to clean the blender, simply scatter a handful of cereal over a scoop of ice cream and drizzle with brandy. I may never look at cereal the same way again. Cheers!
