Heat oven to 325°F (350°F for glass). Grease the bottom of an 8-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray. Make and bake the brownies as directed on the box. Cool completely on a cooling rack, about 1 1/2 hours.
In a medium bowl, beat the Filling ingredients with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Spread evenly over the brownie base.
In a small microwavable bowl, microwave Topping ingredients uncovered on High 15 to 30 seconds; stir until smooth; cool 10 minutes. Drop the topping by spoonfuls over the filling layer; spread evenly. Refrigerate about 30 minutes or until set. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows. Store covered in the refrigerator.
Cut the brownies into bite-size treats for a dessert buffet.
For extra crunch, swap the creamy peanut butter for crunchy.
Use dark chocolate chips in place of semisweet for extra decadence.
