EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

Frozen meatballs are available in a variety of flavors. Plain meatballs are used in this pie, but Swedish meatballs with subtle spices and Italian meatballs with a heartier flavor can also be used.

Thaw the meatballs overnight in the refrigerator, or use the Defrost setting on your microwave to quickly thaw them.

The standing time for this pie, like many egg-based dishes, allows the pie to set up before being cut.

Family really enjoyed this meal. I felt the potatoes though needed more seasoning than just salt and pepper. This would be good as mini pies also.

I made this a couple weeks ago and my family loved it. I did make a couple changes to it before i made it so figured i would share with all of you. Instead of using shredded hash browns we used tater tots. I smashed them up a little on the bottom. I also added some garlic powder and seasoning salt on top of the tater tots. It came out so good. I think adding the seasonings made it not so bland and the tater tots added more flavor then just regular hash browns. Hope this helps out others :)
