box (4.7 oz) Betty Crocker® au gratin potatoes

cups hot water

cup milk

can (4 ounces) Green Giant® mushroom pieces and stems, drained

cup sour cream
  • 1 Cook beef and garlic powder in 10-inch skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain. Stir in Potatoes, Sauce Mix, hot water and milk.
  • 2 Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally; reduce heat. Cover and simmer about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are tender.
  • 3 Stir in mushrooms and sour cream; heat just until hot. Let stand 5 minutes before serving (sauce will thicken as it stands).

Expert Tips

Shave off a few more calories by substituting ground turkey breast for the ground beef and using skim milk and reduced-fat sour cream.

Stroganoff is named after a nineteenth-century Russian diplomat, Count Paul Stroganov.

This turned out very well. I substituted 1 c beef broth for 1 cup water and added beef flavored oxo after the hamberger cooked. We really liked it, any quick and easy meal. Will make again and again.

One of the important ingredients (taste-wise) of stroganoff is missing here. Add a shot or two (1-2 oz.) of Sherry. It's not stroganoff without Sherry. It isn't naughty or bad for children, the alcohol cooks out very quickly but the flavor of the wine adds a great deal to the taste of the dish. Do not use any other wine in this dish.
