Crisp and refreshing, this cocktail puts your shaker to good use, in a fruity twist on the traditional gin fizz.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chopped unpeeled apple
  • 1/4 cup gin (2 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • Ice cubes
  • 6 tablespoons to 1/2 cup carbonated water (3 to 4 oz)
  • Apple or lemon slices

Steps

    In bottom of cocktail shaker, muddle chopped apple with muddler or end of wooden spoon. Add gin, lemon juice and powdered sugar.

    Fill cocktail shaker with ice; shake until blended. Pour into lowball glass filled with ice, straining out apple and ice. Add enough carbonated water to fill glass. Garnish with apple slices.

    You’ll need half of a medium lemon to get 1 tablespoon of juice.

    Club soda or seltzer water can be substituted for carbonated water.
