Expert Tips

Coleslaw comes from the Dutch word koolsla, meaning “cool cabbage.”

Add color to this classic picnic salad by using a 10-ounce bag of coleslaw or broccoli slaw mix instead of the 4 cups of shredded cabbage. You’ll save time, too!

The basic recipe is good, but my family and I thought it was missing something. Tasted really bland. Here the recipe doesn't call for any cider vinegar like most all your slaw recipes do, so...after adding that it taste just fine. I didn't measure the vinegar I added, just went by taste. Maybe 1 1/2 Tbsp. I also added some chopped up green pepper in mine for a kick.

I have four picky eaters in my family and all of them loved this coleslaw! I only made two changes -- I left out the raw onion and I added toasted sesame seeds for a little crunch. Really fast to make. Definitely a keeper!
