can (21 oz) apple pie filling with more fruit

medium apples, peeled, chopped (about 2 cups)

cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (8 oz)

cups Original Bisquick® mix

cups milk

teaspoon salt

teaspoon pepper

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • 2 In 12-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink; drain. Stir in pie filling and apples. Spread mixture evenly in baking dish. Top with 1 cup of the cheese.
  • 3 In large bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk, salt, pepper and eggs with wire whisk or fork until blended. Pour evenly over cheese.
  • 4 Bake 30 to 37 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Top with remaining 1 cup cheese. Bake 3 to 5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Expert Tips

You can use turkey sausage as a substitute for the pork sausage.

If the timing is right, plan a trip to a nearby apple orchard with your family. Not only is it a great way to spend time together, but your kids will get a lesson in where and how apples are grown.

I made this last weekend and it was phenomenal. Used Aunt Jemima buttermilk pancake mix instead of Bisquick because that's what I had in the house. Used 2% cheddar, spicy pork sausage and honey crisp apples. Delicious. I will definitely make it again.

The first time I made this, it was to use up a lot of pantry items in our vacation rental. We were very pleased with it, and I have since made it again, this time using seasoned turkey sausage, egg substitute and fat free half and half. Again, very very good!

Really good!!! Easy to lighten up, I used turkey sausage, skim milk, and heartsmart bisquick, and the pie filling with no added sugar, and it was still yummy!
