lb bulk pork sausage

can (21 oz) apple pie filling with more fruit

medium apples, peeled, chopped (about 2 cups)

cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (8 oz)

cups Original Bisquick® mix

cups milk

teaspoon salt

teaspoon pepper

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • 2 In 12-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink; drain. Stir in pie filling and apples. Spread mixture evenly in baking dish. Top with 1 cup of the cheese.
  • 3 In large bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk, salt, pepper and eggs with wire whisk or fork until blended. Pour evenly over cheese.
  • 4 Bake 30 to 37 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Top with remaining 1 cup cheese. Bake 3 to 5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

I made this for Mothers Day Brunch. It was well received, however, the pie filling gave it too much sweetness and a gooey texture. I think it would be better with just fresh chopped apples next time.

outstanding. i use 8 eggs, and really tart apples. top with apple slices. have made it with bosc pears, which also works well. and have used peach pie filling with apples. still cannot find a package cheese that is as sharp as i like. this actually feeds six guys that are going to work that day. throw in some nutmeg by the way.
