1
loaf (16 oz) American cheese, cut into cubes
2
cups shredded mozzarella cheese (8 oz)
1
jar (28 oz) tomato pasta sauce
1/2
cup dry red wine or Progresso® beef flavored broth (from 32-oz carton)
1
loaf Italian bread, cut into 1-inch cubes, if desired
  • 1 Spray inside of 3- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In slow cooker, mix cheeses, pasta sauce and wine.
  • 2 Cover; cook on High heat setting 45 to 60 minutes.
  • 3 Stir until cheese is smooth. With rubber spatula, scrape down side of slow cooker to help prevent edge of fondue from scorching. Reduce heat setting to Low. Serve fondue with bread cubes and wooden picks or fondue forks for dipping. Fondue will hold up to 4 hours.

Expert Tips

Varying this cheesy fondue is so easy by using your favorite pasta sauce, such as garden vegetable or mushroom and ripe olive.

Make a quick Caesar salad using a bag of salad mix and bottled dressing.

The kids loved it! I used the leftovers on pasta for a delicious spaghetti sauce.

This recipe was a total hit with the kids!! I used the beef broth instead of the wine and it was great. We cut up bite sized pieces of pepperoni, canadian bacon, pineapple, summer sausage and meatballs. Turned out wonderful! Very filling and makes enough for an army!! 5 Spoon rating from my family!

With fondue you use wine or broth to thin. And you can use cornstarch or flour or other thickeners if you get to thin. With cheese fondue you can use either with more sweet fondues you stick to the wines or condensed milks. Anything that has pizza in it or my children get to dip is always a hit at my house.
