cup Gold Medal® whole wheat flour

cup packed brown sugar

cup unsweetened baking cocoa

teaspoon baking soda

teaspoon vanilla

teaspoon salt

cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Place paper baking cup in each of 12 regular-size muffin cups. In medium bowl, mix buttermilk, butter and egg with spoon until blended. Stir in flours, brown sugar, cocoa, baking soda, vanilla and salt just until moistened. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • 2 Divide batter evenly among muffin cups.
  • 3 Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pan. Serve warm or cool.

Expert Tips

If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, use 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice plus enough milk to measure 1 cup.

i tried the recipe they were very tasty and moist but i did add 1/2 cup white sugar to it becoz batter was not sweet as required. i added sugar, recipe needs a add a bit sugar to it with brown sugar and i used milk instead of buttermilk and all purpose flour instead of whole wheat flour. they were too good i will make them again for sure

The first time I made these, everyone who came over to my house devoured them and I ended up sharing the recipe on Facebook. I used milk with lemon juice the first time instead of buttermilk. I will make them again for an Easter brunch tomorrow, but plan on using buttermilk this time. Hope they turn out as well!
