What Are Brownie Christmas Trees?

These trees are deceptively easy to make! Prepare a box of our triple chocolate brownie mix. The brownies are cut into triangles and frosted with our rich & creamy vanilla frosting and then decorated with your favorite holiday sprinkles. Add pretzel rods as the tree trunks, and they’re ready to enjoy them!

Do I Have to Line My Pan with Foil?

Trust us, it makes cutting the brownie triangles a lot easier (and might just save your pan from being scratched, too!)

Ingredients

  • 1 box (17.8 oz) Betty Crocker™ Delights Supreme Triple Chunk Brownie Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg called for on brownie mix box
  • 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • 1 green tube gel food color from 1 package (2.7 oz) Betty Crocker™ Classic Gel Food Colors
  • 2 pretzel rods

Decorations, as desired

  • Betty Crocker™ Decorating Icing, Betty Crocker™ Decorating Sprinkles and Sugars (assorted colors)

Steps

  • 1
Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Line 9-inch square pan with foil; spray bottom and sides of foil with cooking spray. Make brownie batter as directed on box. Spread in pan. Bake 28 to 33 minutes or until toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • 2
Using foil to lift, remove from pan, and peel away foil. Place brownie on work surface. Use sharp knife to cut tree shape in brownie as shown in photo.
  • 3
Arrange remaining brownie pieces to form second tree as shown in photo. Arrange both brownie trees on a serving platter or board. In medium bowl, stir frosting and food color until evenly colored. Spread or pipe frosting onto brownies. Insert pretzel rod in bottom of each brownie to form tree trunk.

Use decorating icing, sprinkles and sugars to decorate brownies as desired using photo as a guide. Cut into pieces to serve. Store loosely covered at room temperature.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
Have fun and use your imagination when it comes to decorating these Christmas tree-shaped brownies. You can even have a contest with the family using one brownie tree per team—whoever has the best-dressed tree wins!
  • tip 2
If brownie feels too soft to cut and assemble, freeze 20 to 30 minutes.
  • tip 3
Use Betty Crocker™ Decorating Bags and Decorating Tips to make easy and unique designs on your holiday tree brownies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can brownie Christmas trees be made ahead of time?

Since there will be cut edges of the brownies that are exposed to the air, they will dry out over time. You could make them earlier in the day you want to serve them. Just carefully place plastic wrap along the edges of the brownies until ready to serve.

How do I cut brownie Christmas trees?

We’d suggest cutting them into 6 rows across. Leave the tip of the tree as one brownie. Cut the remaining rows into pieces.
