New Takes on Classic Sides

November 08, 2012

Get creative with Thanksgiving standards with these 14 reimagined side dishes

Green Beans
Your guests won’t cry foul if you divert from the traditional casserole when you offer updates like a flavorful Roasted Green Beans with Pancetta or bright and citrusy Green Beans with Rosemary-Orange Glaze.

Stuffing
It can be a sacrilege to omit the stuffing your family has come to expect at the Thanksgiving table, but if you’re looking for a refresh, try individual-sized Stuffing Muffins or spicy, veggie-rich Mexican Cornbread Stuffing.

Mashed Potatoes
Mashed potatoes hardly change from year to year, but we love the extra creaminess in these chive-topped Mascarpone Whipped Potatoes and the cheesy bacon richness of this new Loaded Twice Baked Potato Casserole.

Cranberries
Whether you’re a cranberry jelly fan or a fresh-cranberry purist, reimagining this iconic holiday side dish is easy to do in our Layered Cranberry Salad and Cranberry Sauce Muffins.

Sweet Potatoes
Instead of the standard candied sweet potatoes, try a super savory Italian Sweet Potato Gratin, made easy with a few shortcuts, or give your oven a break with Grilled Sweet Potato and Pepper Packs, packed with honey and finished with fresh chives.

Brussels Sprouts
Try a rich new spin on classic braised Brussels sprouts with our Cheesy Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, or go for something entirely different with a crunchy, flavorful Brussels Sprouts Salad.

Squash
If a butternut squash dish is a staple in your home try a Parmesan Butternut Squash Gratin that tastes a little more indulgent, or a rustic spin that showcases seasonal ingredients and adds a sweetness in a surprising new way like in this Butternut Squash with Orange-Butter Glaze.

This may sound silly but does anyone know if stuffing/dressing can be frozen? I live alone and am not good at cutting recipes down. I would love to try the stuffing muffin recipe or try to make my moms recipe in muffin cups but would only if I could freeze them.
