Try something new with zesty black bean spread instead of tired tomato sauce for your next pizza.
This is absolutely our go-to pizza during the week and on game days. We love how it’s a pizza and salad in one! Instead of that tired tomato sauce, we spread zesty black bean spread all over the pizza crust then top with cheese and a crisp salad.
Here’s what you’re going to need: Refrigerated pizza crust, canned black beans, cheese, garlic, hot sauce, oregano and your favorite salad ingredients.
Start by getting the pizza crust into the oven, we just want to pre-bake the crust a touch, this will make sure our final pizza isn’t soggy. While that bakes, we can make our black bean spread.

It’s so easy to make the spread, which can totally be used to spread onto sandwiches or tortillas, by the way. Start with a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add a bit of oil then add the garlic and oregano.

Once the garlic has toasted a bit, which takes less than a minute, you can throw in the black beans.

Now, add some water, this will help us when we mash the black beans into a spread.

Find yourself a potato masher or fork and smoosh the black beans into a paste, you aren’t looking for a smooth spread, a few un-smashed beans are nice for texture.

By now, your pizza crust will be prebaked, so just spread the black beans all over the crust then sprinkle with shredded cheese. Now, put the pizza back into the oven to finish cooking for another 8-10 minutes.
Once cooked, top the pizza with your favorite salad ingredients, we went with crisp Romaine lettuce, sweet cherry tomatoes and our favorite ranch dressing, but that part is totally up to you.
