With just 20 minutes in the morning, you can assemble Swiss steak ingredients and have it going in the slow cooker.
large onion, chopped (1 cup)
medium carrots, sliced (1 cup)
can (4 oz) Green Giant™ mushroom pieces and stems, drained
lb boneless beef round steak, cut into serving-size pieces
can (18 oz) Progresso™ Vegetable Classics creamy mushroom soup
can (8 oz) tomato sauce
In 3- to 4-quart slow cooker, layer onion, carrots, mushrooms and beef. Sprinkle pepper over beef. In medium bowl, mix soup and tomato sauce; pour over beef.
Cover; cook on Low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.
Place beef on serving platter. With slotted spoon, remove vegetables from cooker and spoon over beef. Stir gravy in cooker with wire whisk to blend. Serve gravy with beef.
There is plenty of yummy gravy to serve over mashed potatoes or hot noodles. Coleslaw completes the meal.
To save time, measure out 1 cup of purchased frozen chopped onion the night before, and place in the refrigerator to thaw.
