pouch Betty Crocker® peanut butter cookie mix

tablespoons vegetable oil

chewy caramels in milk chocolate
Black or red string licorice

cup (72) miniature candy-coated chocolate baking bits
Betty Crocker® black decorating gel (from 0.68-oz tube)
  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix, oil, water and egg until dough forms.
  • 2 Shape dough into 36 (1-inch) balls. On ungreased cookie sheets, place 2 inches apart.
  • 3 Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Immediately press 1 chewy caramel in center of each cookie. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks.
  • 4 Cut licorice into 8 (2-inch) pieces for each spider. Attach legs by sticking into chewy caramel. Use baking bits for eyes and black gel to make pupils in eyes.

These cookies were really good and so cute!! They were a big hit at work. It did take some practice getting the legs into the carmel though. One criticism I heard was that the carmel was too hard to eat. I agree that a peanut butter cup might be better. :-)

These cookies took some time to construct but they will make you giggle when they are finished. My grandkids loved them and that made it worthwhile for me. Will definitely make them again>

We made these for a neighborhood Halloween party. They tasted and looked great. We received alot of compliments on them. All were gone so none to bring home. The adults even loved them. Drawback, a little tedious to make and hard to get the licorice into the rolo. Great for a once a year treat and would do again. We used mini-m & m's for the eyes. Very cute & yummy!
