i made this cake for a friend who loves pandas, and everyone thought it was super cute. however, to make it cheaper and easier to make, i doctored it as such: 1st, instead of wasting time with licorice, plus red and black candies, i used black writing/decorating gel instead(pandas have black, not red, noses, but even a dot of red frosting would save time if no red candy)..2nd, i despise coconut, even the smell makes me sick. so i used long chocolate sprinkles, then added (edible) white glitter for the white "fur". also, instead of expensive wafer cookies, i bought "homestyle" chocolate cookies, and cut them as necessary (used a glass and cookie cutter, etc.). one final touch, i made a little "happy birthday" "flag" and some leaves and put it in panda's paws. hope this can help:)

My daughter loved her Birthday cake. It was easy to make. I made the head smaller by using a 5 1/2 inch cake pan. Instead of using coconut, I used black sugar, also M&M's for eye's and nose and oreo's for ears and paws. Again, this came out so cute and very good!

Good idea! My kids don't like coconut, so I covered it using a #16 star tip. For a more authentic look, I created a "bamboo" stick using a green cereal straw and cut "leaves" out of a green fruit rollup. I placed it diagonally between his paws. I also made the head a vanilla cake and body a chocolate cake to keep everyone happy...
