  • SERVINGS

    4

1
pound ground turkey or chicken
1/2
cup barbecue sauce
1
can (4.5 ounces) Old El Paso® chopped green chiles, drained
4
slices (1 ounce each) Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeño peppers
4
hamburger buns, split
  • 1 Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat.
  • 2 Mix turkey, barbecue sauce and chilies. Shape mixture into 4 patties, each about 1 inch thick.
  • 3 Grill patties covered 4 to 6 inches from medium coals 14 to 16 minutes, turning once, until turkey is no longer pink in center. About 1 minute before burgers are done, top each with cheese slice. Grill until cheese is melted. Serve on buns.

Expert Tips

Whole-grain hamburger buns give you more fiber than white. Look for the words “whole wheat flour” on the label; many “wheat” breads are simply white bread with added color.

Turn up the heat by using 2 or 3 chopped fresh jalapeño chilies instead of the canned chilies.

I decided to try ground chicken and these turned out pretty delicious! I added 1.5 cups of bread crumbs and they were still pretty soft, which was different eating them. But nonetheless, they were good a change from a plain turkey burger.

My family tried this recipe and loved it!!! The only reason I voted it a 4 was because the consistency of the meat is a little mushy. I added about 1/4 C. bread crumbs to help with that. When my husband was grilling them he had to be very careful turning them. Once they were cooked they tasted so good I wanted to make them for the next night too. I did refrain and am looking forward to them in my next weeks menu!

Really great. Even DH liked it, and he usually complains when its not ground beef. Will make again for sure.
