1 1/2
cups Original Bisquick® mix
1
cup powdered sugar
1/4
cup firm butter or margarine
4
eggs, beaten
1
cup dark corn syrup
1/4
cup butter or margarine, melted, cooled
1
teaspoon vanilla
1
cup semisweet chocolate chips (6 oz)
1 1/2
cups chopped pecans (6 oz)
  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, mix Bisquick mix and powdered sugar. Cut in firm butter, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until crumbly. Press firmly in bottom of 13x9-inch pan. Bake 15 minutes; cool.
  • 2 In large bowl, beat eggs, corn syrup, melted butter and vanilla with spoon until smooth. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans. Pour over crust.
  • 3 Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown and set. Refrigerate at least 2 hours until chocolate is firm. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 6 rows.

Expert Tips

Use the size of pan specified in the recipe. Bars made in a larger pan will be dry and overbaked; those made in a smaller pan will be underbaked.

Buy a bag of already-chopped pecans to save on prep time.

I was a bit nervous to try this recipe after reading the negative reviews, but these bars left me pleasantly surprised. My first bar did crumble when I tried to get it out of the pan, but it was smooth sailing after that. I sprayed the pan generously, and next time I will line it with parchment paper for easier cutting, but overall I did not experience any problems with the base becoming crumbly. These bars were super easy and delicious!

These bars were all right. Not great -- not nearly as tasty as a traditional pecan pie. I had no issues w/ the crust. I did drizzle a little low-fat caramel dip over the top of them, and it upped the "yum factor". I might make them again.
