  • PREP TIME 30 Min
  • TOTAL TIME 30 Min
  • SERVINGS 6

1
cup uncooked regular long-grain white rice
2
cups water
1
egg, beaten
1
lb. lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1
cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1/2
cup sliced celery
1/3
cup soy sauce
1
tablespoon sesame oil
1/2
teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 1/2
cups fresh snow pea pods, halved diagonally
1/2
cup chopped green onions (8 medium)
  • 1 Cook rice in water as directed on package.
  • 2 Meanwhile, spray 12-inch nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Heat over medium heat. Add beaten egg to skillet; cook 1 minute or until firm but still moist. Remove from skillet; cut into thin strips. Cover to keep warm.
  • 3 In same skillet, cook ground beef, mushrooms and celery over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes or until beef is thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently.
  • 4 In small bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil and hot pepper sauce; stir into beef mixture. Add pea pods, onions, cooked egg and cooked rice; cook 2 to 3 minutes longer or until thoroughly heated, stirring constantly.

Expert Tips

Light-colored sesame oil adds a delicate nutty flavor to salad dressings, sautés or stir-fries. Dark sesame oil has a rich aroma that makes it perfect for flavoring finished recipes. Use either light or dark sesame oil in this fried rice.

Not like fried rice at all. The taste is there because of the soy sauce and sesame oil, but that's about it. It's ok, but if you're trying to satisfy your fried rice craving, just get real take out. It is easy to make, I'll give it that.

A-MAZING! I made a double batch of this and it was spectacular. I thought I'd skip the egg step and just toss in the beaten eggs to the whole mixture. I think next time I'll take the step as the egg was in there, but got a little lost visually. I also used a fiery sesame seed oil just to give it a little extra kick. I will definitely make this again!!
