Anyone who knows me well knows I’m a brownie girl. Give me the choice between cake, cookies, pie and brownies, and I’ll almost always choose the latter. But as much as I love a good brownie, sometimes the effort it takes to make that perfect cake consistency I prefer can override my cravings.
So you can imagine how ridiculously happy I was when I found out you can make delicious, fluffy and flavorful brownies using a simple cake mix! In less than half an hour (yep, 30 MINUTES for brownies), you and your brownie-loving self can have moist, decadent, cake-like brownies loaded with fudgy flavor.
One of my favorite versions of cake mix brownies are these Loaded German Chocolate Cake Mix Brownies. They’re packed with yummy ingredients like chocolate chips, chopped pecans and coconut flakes for added flavor and texture. Here’s how to make them.
First, gather your ingredients and have them all measured out and ready to go to speed up the time between now and brownie-eating time (always a good idea in my book).
Instead of adding the ingredients listed on the back of the cake mix box, just add a melted stick of butter, one egg and evaporated milk. This helps to ensure that dense brownie consistency we all know and love, while still binding the ingredients together and giving them an extra cake-like fluffiness.
Add your remaining mix-ins. I love to add coconut flakes, chocolate chips and chopped pecans, but you can add whatever you love–chopped caramels, mini marshmallows, walnuts, peanut butter chips, pretzels… go crazy!
Pour and press the batter, which will be thicker than cake mix, into the bottom of a well-greased baking dish.
Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out nice and clean.
Cool brownies completely, then slice, serve and marvel at the magic that is a cake mix brownie!
