Made these today and they are wonderful. For the caremel I used kraft caramel bits and just put them in the microwave with about 5 tablespoons of milk.It turned out nice and smooth not tough at all.My husband ate them warm with vanilla ice cream and said it was very good. I will definatly make these again!!

I agree with a couple of the reviews: The caramel can become too "tough" (I think ice cream topping would have been a better choice) - and it is way too time consuming the way the recipe is written (even with my husband unwrapping all those caramels!). I won't be making this again.

I made these bars for the first time on 8-6-11, for my son Dillons welcome home party from Afghanistan!! Couldnt have made a better choice, they were moist, carmely, chocolatey, nutty.. simply delisious!! They were gone in no time & everyone wanted the recipe!!

I made these bars for a Bake Sale at work and they were so easy to make and they were a BIG hit at the sale. I doubled the recipe and made it in a 13 x 9 pan. This is a great recipe for the holidays.

Oh so good! I used the microwave to melt caramels. I also used a 9 inch square pan so they were not so thick. I did not have shortening and used veg oil for the chips. These will be made over and over as it has the best combination of choclolate, caramel and nuts!!!

I made these, and they taste wonderful! A little tip: If you think melting the caramel is time consuming, or it simply doesn't come out right I suggest using Smucker's Hot Caramel ice cream topping. It works just as well :-)

made these a couple of weeks ago & loved them. I'm not much of a baker but with the cookie mix, this was quick & easy to do. They came out just perfect. Will definately make again.

These are an absolute favorite! A hit every time. I recently did them for a bake sale and they were my best seller. I am going to do 3 batches next time! One question though - can these be frozen once made? I'm wondering how far in advance I can make them plus I've had people wonder if they can buy them early and freeze to save for the holidays.

Wonderful Cookie Bars. Made them for a party and no one knew they came from a package. Went back to the store and purchased 10 boxes. Absolutely wonderful. It has been a long time since I have had a dessert this good. Excellent product. Hope I will be able to purchase them at a regular "Safeway"supermarket in California. I did purchase them at an Outlet Store in Marina California.
