I just made these and wanted to give my two cents. Really easy to make, but I changed a few things. I took another persons advise and tripled teh reciped and used all butter. I dropped them by the spoonful instead of rolling into a ball and did not use the whites or nuts. My inpression was made with a round 1/2 tsp dipped in flour so it wouldn't stick. And lastly, I added the jelly before baking. Wonderful!!

I just made these cookies for the first time and they are delicious!! I used all butter and no shortening. They do not look quite like the picture but still yummy. I suggest tripling the recipe. Each batch makes maybe a dozen cookies

I just made these. They are easy and delicious. You won't be disappointed. Please note though, the recipe only nets 1 & 1/2 dozen cookies.

I like to make these for the holidays and fill them in the jeweled tones of red/purple jellies and jams and orange marmalade. They're ideal for dressing up the cookie tray! The recipe needs to be doubled if you have a sweet-loving crowd.

So good! Double the recipe, one batch isn't enough. I used walnuts and pecans but the walnuts were my favorite and had the best flavor. I used raspberry and blueberry jam--they're a feast for the eyes and tummy!

Wow, am I ever happy that I found this recipe online! I am making Christmas cookies to ship out of state and had followed a recipe for Kolachy cookies I found online. BLAND. Second thought was going "back to the basics" with this recipe. Yay for me it is here! haha! I have been using this recipe since I was a teenager. LOVE THEM!!!!! Yes, you do have to double or triple the batch. Do not let that discourage you. You will not be disappointed. Happy Holidays!!!!!

I've been making these cookies for years, and it's a great recipe. I usually skip the chopped nuts, and substitute the 1/2 tsp. of vanilla for 1/4 tsp. of almond extract and 1/4 tsp. of vanilla. I use strawberry preserves for the filling. Just prior to serving, I sprinkle confectioner's sugar over the cookies. Great for the holidays or any special occasion! I would agree that the recipe yields far fewer cookies than it indicates. Still a favorite cookie recipe!

This was a great quick recipe for thumbprint cookies. Growing up my mom always made them with coconut (I think they are called bird nest cookies) and these were a good substitution on a whim. My 4 year old helped and we substituted Brummel and Brown yogurt butter for shortening and they still turned out good. I agree with others, that you are not getting anywhere near 3 dozen cookies. We tried to stay close to the 1" ball guideline and ended up with 15 cookies.

Love these cookies!!! My mother makes them and I've also been making them for years. We also make Russian Teacakes each year. After I was married, I made them and then my mother in law started to make them. I also fill the thumbprint with white frosting and sprinkle with colored sugar. Very festive looking!!! They don't make as many as the recipe states, so I just double or triple the recipe.
