I cooked this on the stove top instead of the slow cooker and it came out quite well. My family really liked it for a once in a while dish. Next time I will half the sherry or not use it at all. Didn't care for the flavor it added. It will be a keeper for cold weather.

I have been making this soup for years. Please keep in mind that this is Wild Rice Soup, a cream-based "Lutheran" soup. It is very mild and comforting. It is not jazzy or exciting. It does the job to fill you up, but is not going to make you jump up and down (similar to Lutheran coffee.) I will agree with reviewers, that the recipe does need some revision. I add 4 1/2 c. of broth and only use a scant 1/4 c. flour. I also am probably heavy on the vegetables. This recipe is great with turkey, ham or chicken. I give it 5 stars because it is pretty good for the time I have to invest in prep work. That is worth at least one star!

I loved this HOWEVER, I took a look after about 4 hours (was getting hungry :-) ), and it looked more like a thick casserole than soup. So, I checked the veggies and they were as tender as can be....it was done. It was VERY thick though. More the consistency of a casserole. My kids loved it, but next time, I think I'll add more broth (probably at least another 1-2 cups). Oh, and I used cubed turkey ham (smoked), and the flavor was wonderful.

This is my family's all time favorite recipe! Easy to make, both in the crock pot, or on the stove top. I shared this with my sisters, they also love it! I also increase the amount of turkey and/or chicken and add a shake of cayenne pepper for a little more zip.

This soup was OK...I had to add salt and some poultry seasoning because it was very bland. I added chopped red potatoes. It was good in the fact that I wanted something warm and filling because it is so cold outside. Once I added the extra flavor it helped. Still not crazy about it.

Very good! To those who say their soup turned out to thick well so did mine. It was not the fault of the recipe but as one reviewer said we probably used regular instead of wild rice. I know I for one did, I used a long grain rice. But all one had to do was add more broth or water to it before eating. I also used chicken. It did lack a little flavor, I think some smoked bacon or a dash of liquid smoke would have been good. I diffidently will make this again only this time using Wild Rice.

This recipe is great, but I made a few modifications based on others' comments about the consistency and to give it a little more flavor. My boyfriend is a big fan of condensed soup, but we're trying to improve our eating habits, so I've been preparing a lot of home made soups to freeze. That being said, I wanted to make a larger volume of soup than this recipe produces. I used about 6 1/2 cups reduced sodium chicken broth, 1 cup wild rice, and 3 celery stalks. I used the same amount of fat free condensed milk (12oz), but I only added 2T of flour at the end. Instead of turkey, I substituted chopped chicken breast pieces which I browned quickly in about 2T hot toasted sesame oil. I also added 3 strips chopped 99% lean turkey bacon. I substituted frozen corn for peas. In addition to the pepper and tarragon, I added 1/2 t salt, 1/2 t curry powder, 1 t ground mustard, and 1 t dried parsley. It was super tasty, I got the ingredients ready in my free time the day before, threw them in the pot before I went out in the morning. I love my crock pot! **DO NOT add condensed soup to this recipe, it is so loaded with added sodium which is terrible on your blood pressure!

Not a good soup. Zero flavor. Smells like there should be flavor, but nothing is happening in my mouth. Not making this again.

This was very good and easy to make. The only changes I made was I added 1 extra cup of broth and I used chicken instead of turkey. The soup was perfect in consistency! Will make again!
