I fixed this recipe the other day with one variation, instead of minced onion or onion soup mix I sliced up 2 sweet vidalia onions and added those and it really made the difference. My husband loved it. Will definitely make this again. :)

I tried this recipe today and my family and I loved it! I took the advice of another reviewer and used one packet of onion soup mix and 1/2 cup of water. I did not use any other salt in the recipe and found it to be perfectly seasoned. I also cut up some onion about a half cup and added that. The tomato paste I used had garlic and basil added to it. I used about a third of a six ounce can and froze the rest. My husband wants it again next week!

I tried your suggestion Mrs. S and used a packet of onion soup mix, but still found that it was pretty bland. So the next time I made it, I also doubled the amount of salt called for in the recipe to 1 TSP of salt and included a TBSP of Worcestershire sauce. That REALLY made it POP. We're not drinkers in our family, and even with just water instead of the suggested wine/beer, it was mmm-mmmm good. This is one of my favorite slow cooker recipes now because the chicken & veggies get so tender in the stew. I will certainly be making this again with the few tweaks stated above :)

I agree with, TracyTheresa that this dish was extremely bland! I added a packet of onion soup mix and it MADE the dish. It was absolutely delicious. Other modifications I made were instead of using instant chopped onion (not even sure what this is exactly), I used onion powder and instead of white wine or water, I used beer. I also only used 4 chicken thighs instead of 2 packages. I thought it was the right amount with everything else, especially considering the chicken broke down and shredded a bit. Overall & with my few changes it was delish. I'll definately be making it again.

I made this yesterday... and it turned out very bland. Needs more flavor.

This was a very good recipe. The only thing I did differently was thicken the gravy with corn start and water.
