I did what the one gal said and did not pre cook anything but I used a LIGHT Ragu sauce that gave it a sweet flavor, and did add a good amount of the onion and garlic.

I just made this and in reading the previous comments, I did make some alterations to the recipe and it turned out wonderful! My husband simply loves it! I used two cans of our favorite pasta sauce (24 oz. each) instead and used cheese ravioli. I first sprayed the dish with Pam spray, then layered the recipe...about half a jar of sauce on the bottom, then one package of ravioli, about three quarters of a jar of sauce and then some cheese, then the second package of ravioli, the remainder of sauce, and topped it with more cheese. I did not precook anything either, just threw the onion and garlic in wherever I layered the sauce. After reading some of the comments I chose to cook it for my first time making it when I would be home just to be able to check on it and see how long it really would need to be cooked. I started checking on it after 2 hours and stirred it up a bit, then checked on it each hour after that due to in previous comments others saying the cooking time was much shorter than the minimum of 5 hours recommended in the recipe. In my crockpot it was done perfectly after 4 hours cooked on low. The ravioli wasn't mushy, nor was anything too dry. Everything was just right! My husband says he likes it better cooked in the crockpot then when I would make it on the stove. We were very happy with this recipe! It was delicious and we have plenty of leftovers! There was no sticking or burning to the pot so it was also super easy to clean up! I will definitely be cooking this again!!

When it was done, the sauce was thick, chunky, and dry, the ravioli was extremely soggy. I was excited to make this but I won't ever again because I couldn't even finish my serving.

This was outstanding! It did burn a bit on the bottom but, certainly did not ruin the taste. I used freshly made tomato sauce from our garden which made it even better! My husband and children raved about it and my daughter took left overs to school today for her lunch. Great recipe!!

I have just tried this and could not be happier with the outcome. We are in the process of moving and this was a big hit with the volunteers and a bigger hit with me since I didn't have to spend a lot of time on dinner for the crew even though it looked like I did. I did add the extra sauce and some diced tomatoes. I don't know what Princess Thrall was thinking; my electric bills actually drop when I stick with the crockpot, rangetop and toaster oven and lewave the main oven for holiday get togethers.

As an FYI to the comment on how much it costs to use your crock pot-it's actually SAVES money! To run a crock pot for 8 hours-it's like 10-15 cents total! To run your stove/oven is much less energy efficient (for both the cook and the house). Plus-this sounds like it'll have more of that cooked-in taste with flavor everywhere; stove-top ravioli IS quick, but often bordering on slimy and not as flavorful.

This has been a HUGE hit with my family since I began making it a few years ago when it 1st came out - I'd say it's the favorite slow cooker recipe for more than a couple of my extended family!. I've learned a few things about it that help. First, it cooks just like the recipe with my older model crockpot, but with my newer crockpot it cooks MUCH faster & needs to be watched after 3 hours so it doesn't overcook. Second, I spray the crock with cooking spray to prevent the ravioli from sticking & burning. Also, I don't pre-cook the garlic & onion anymore, I just throw it in with everything else & mix it all up before cooking. Lastly, there are unlimited possibilities at tweaking this recipe to suit your tastes or change it up. And to the person who said it was a waste of electricity--I didn't have the time to stand at the stove in the evening, as I was taking care of my infant twin grandsons 9 hours a day while their mom worked, on top of having 2 kids of my own still at home. I would throw this together in the morning when the babies took their nap & by the time their mom came to pick them up, I would have dinner ready to dish up for us & send home with her for her family!
