Thanks for all the tips! I plan on trying this, and using all of your advice! Also, I'm going to make my own frosting with a buttercream recipe and orange kool-aid.

I did not make the gumdrop spiders because I knew I would not be able to find bulk black gumdrops (and my dd doesn't like them) and they looked like a lot of work. I ended up using spider rings instead. I only had orange spiders so I did not color the frosting. I don't know what happened but by the next day the frosting was sliding off the cupcakes--I did let the cupcakes cool completely so I know that was not the reason and it was only in the lower 60's in my house. Next time I make these cupcakes, I will make my own frosting instead of using the BC frosting. DD said her Girl Scout troop thought the cupcakes were really cute even with the sliding frosting.

I always make cupcakes like this each Halloween, but I add the spiders with a bag of plastic spider rings. Much easier and cute! People in my office wear their spider ring all day!

Most of the kids I know don't care for the black gumdrops so try substituting a spider ring. It's not edible, but the kids will have a little toy to play with once their cupcake has been gobbled up!

Used these for my husband, Middle School Principal, to give to his staff. Tried the whole, making a spider out of gumdrops and gave up quickly since I had over 100 of them to make. Found Gummy spiders at Pamida and bought those instead. They were a hit!
