Smurf Cake! It is so funny to see this recipe. For over twenty years my family has made a from-scratch Smurf Cake (Waldorf Red Velvet Cake made with copious amounts of liquid blue food color instead of the usual red). Always a family favorite that disappears fast. Our from scratch frosting recipe is really cool. Only frosting I've ever found that uses flour in it. Odd, but truly tasty. Seeing this recipe brought back memories and made me smile. Thanks! :)

I have made this 3 times and I can never get the color right. I don't know what I am doing wrong. But it comes out a weird gray blue color and is not nearly as pretty as the royal blue. Taste great but sort of ugly.

I just made a royal blue cake. It was a test for a wedding cake I am going to make. It was also a hit. They loved it and said that it tasted good. So a royal blue wedding cake it is. Thanks Betty Crocker

This cake was fun to make and the end product was beautiful! I opted not to make the frosting, so I just used a store bought cream cheese icing. I am thinking about using the same receipe for other holiday cakes/colors. i.e. an orange cake for Halloween and a red and green cake for Christmas.
