I made this cake for Thanksgiving and high hopes for an awesome dessert as is turned out looking great. Unfortunately, when I cut a piece and took a bite it was honestly the driest cake I had ever eaten. Even with coffee it was too dry. The chocolate band turned out fine and the icing was okay but the pumpkin cake portion was inedible. After trying the cake, warned everyone else not to eat it and threw it away. I agree with the person below me...I just wasted 3 sticks of butter and 6 eggs. Such a disappointment.

I am a professional baker and I baked this cake today in hopes of bringing it to an office party tomorrow! This is the worst cake I have ever made! It is dry and bland. It has the texture of cornbread. I have baked and designed wedding cakes for 30 years so I believe I know my way around a cake batter. Good luck people! All I can say is I wasted 6 eggs and 3 sticks of butter!

This cake was delicious! I couldn't stop eating it. I skipped the truffle layer and added mini semisweet chocolate chips. I was a little concerned because the batter was super thick but I just forged ahead and it turned out awesome. It was a hit at the Halloween party!

This cake is fabulous! I am planning on making it for my Bunco group so I did a test run tonight!! This is a keeper for sure! The icing is to die for! If you like pumpkin this will be a hit!! The fudge ribbon is just heavenly. Wasn't sure I was going to like that but wow! It rocks!!!!

Ok, so I can't really say how good the finished cake is, because I made it to donate to a cake auction. However, I did lick the spoon when I was done and it was quite tasty. My one criticism is that it says 2 hour and 45 minutes for the total time. I started this cake at 4pm and went into the oven around 5:30 and came out around 7. By the time it cooled off and I made the icing and drizzled it on there it was quarter to 9. So... 2:45 my eye, it took me 4 hours and 45 minutes. They need to re-estimate their time for real people, not for baking whizzes who make cakes all the time. The recipe was so confusing with all the ingredients and steps I had to keep reading the recipe to remember what I was doing with what ingredient. I give this three spoons because the batter tasted good but it was a serious pain in the you know what and took FOREVER.

I made the just the icing & added it to the plain, by-the-box Butter Chocolate Cake. Super good! It's just thick enough to make a really nice drizzle. I usually just use milk, powdered sugar & vanilla for icing. The browned butter adds another richer flavor that really makes the cake extra special.
