I was worried I wouldn't be able to execute this but I followed the directions and everything went great. Using two boxes of cake mix, I made three cars and one mini car (using two mini loaf pans) so my son could have his own smash cake. So very cute and lots of fun to make. I would suggest using a bread knife or piece of thread to shave off a little bit of the top of your cake loaf if it is too rounded. My were a bit wobbly so I cut a little bit off the curved top before assembling. This made the car a bit more stable. I also piped chocolate frosting around the windows instead of using licorice to outline.

i spent some time in the decorating. my cakes didnt rise much so they also had the race car look. when i frosted them i made the windows first then did the rest of the car. around the windows i put frosting in a ziplock baggie and snipped the end to get in between the windshield. i think they turned out pretty good. my boss loved them and asked me to make them for her son's birthday.

Nice and easier than it looks. My little boy loved it for his birthday. I made a practice one a few weeks before the actual day, remember to angle the windshields for the front or it will look like a spaceship!

It was one of my frist cakes I did. It turned out ok my 2 year old nephew loved them. I would definatly use two cake mixes so they don't end up looking like racecars. I also had problems getting them both the same shape and cake crubs getting into the frosting.

While ours looked ok the cakes in the bread pans didn't get very high and so the cars had more of a sleek racecar look, we used a box as directed and I think two boxes would have served us better. Instead of rope licorice which was tough to find we bought the black jell frosting and used that for the windshield and grill. Overall the cakes were a real hit and the kids LOVED them.

I made two of these cakes (4 cars total) for my sons third birthday, and they were a huge hit. I would definitely make them again. The recipe was very easy to follow, and modify if you like. I liked that I didn''t have to go out and buy a special pan for this project, and it was very fun to decorate. I would highly recommend this cake to anyone.

I made this recipe for my daughter''s "family" birthday party. It is also my son''s half birthday so I decorated one of the cakes for him. It was super easy to make and turned out just like the picture! I added some extra decorations using a decorating tip and bag. I added a license plate and decorations. Thanks for the great ideas!
