THIS REMINDS ME OF GROWING UP IN NYC WE DRANK EGG CREAMS THEN, GOT THEM AT A DRUGSTORE THAT HAD A SODA FOUNTAIN. BOIL ONE CUP OF WATER, WITH ONE CUP OF SUGAR BOIL 5 MINUTES. COOL THEN ADD ONE TSP OF VANILLA EXTRACT IN A TALL GLASS PUT IN 2 INCHES OF SYRUP 2 INCHES OF MILK, AND FILL WITH PLAIN BOTTLED SELTZER ALL INGREDIENTS MUST BE COLD. NOW IF YOU USE CHOCOLATE INSTEAD YOU HAVE AN CHOCOLATE SODA. AND IF YOU ADD A SCOOP OF ICE CREAM, YOU HAVE AN ICE CREAM SODA. JOHN

This is a good recipe, however, I prefer my Italian sodas with mineral water instead. Also, after you add the ice, top it off with half and half or creme, it tastes great and makes the drink more visually appealing.

With some of the flavored syrups you need more than 2 or 3 Tbs spoons of syrup. It is something that appeals to more adults than children. We tried some sugar-free syrups for those who are diabetics.
